Setting up Homecart
On first launch you have three options: New list (start alone, invite others any time), Join a household (someone gave you a code or QR code) or Start without (the app runs on your iPhone only). Then Homecart asks for your first name, shown as a coloured initial on what you add. That's all: no account, no password, no email.
Optionally, back up the list with Sign in with Apple. You only need that to get back into your household on a new device without a code (see Back up with Apple). You can do it later under Settings → Account & backup.
Adding items
Type into “What's missing?” at the bottom and press return. The keyboard stays open so you can add five things in a row. Homecart sorts every item into its section by itself.
You can type whole sentences: “2 kg potatoes, 1.5 l milk, bread and 3 cans of tomatoes” becomes four items with quantities. Separators (and, commas), quantities before and after, number words and the usual units are recognised, with a preview above the field.
With nothing typed, the catalog shows tiles with everything you've ever had, sorted by your history. What's due by rhythm comes first with a blue dot; one tap puts it on the list. Typing searches the catalog live.
Check off, undo, delete
Check off: tap the row or swipe right. It moves down to “Done”. Mistyped? “Undo” sits at the bottom for four seconds, and a second tap on the checkmark takes it back too.
Delete: swipe left or long-press. It happens immediately with no confirmation; for six seconds the way back is at the bottom, shaking the iPhone works too.
The difference matters: checked off means bought and feeds your rhythm. Delete what you added by mistake, otherwise Homecart learns something wrong.
Quantity and unit
Long-press a row → Edit to set quantity and unit; the usual quantity is pre-filled next time. Or type it straight in (“500 g flour”, “2 milk”).
Done items
Checked-off items collect under “Done”. A tap brings one back. How long they stay visible is set under Settings → Stores & route → Keep done items: gone immediately, 7 days, 30 days or forever. Your rhythm doesn't care: a purchase stays a purchase even after the row is cleaned up.
