In one sentence

Homecart is a grocery list for everyone at home. It sorts itself like your own store and remembers what runs out and when.

Short · 60 words

Homecart is a grocery list for iPhone that everyone in a household writes on. Each item lands in its section by itself, and the sections are ordered the way you walk through that particular store. When you check things off, the app remembers how often you buy them and tells you later when it's time again. For parties you invite guests by link, and afterwards the settle-up works out who still owes whom. Homecart is free, shows no ads, and the data lives on a server in Germany.

Long · 220 words

There are plenty of grocery lists. Homecart is made for households where several people shop. Enter the code once or scan the QR code, and everyone sees the same list on their own iPhone. Every item carries an initial, so it's clear who wrote it down and who's bringing it.

As you add items, Homecart sorts each one into its section, even if you type a whole sentence like “2 kg potatoes, milk and three cans of tomatoes”. The sections are in the order you walk through the store, and that order differs from store to store. The app learns it by itself as you check things off.

The special part is the memory. Every check-off counts as a purchase. From the gaps Homecart works out that the milk runs out about every five days, and the evening before shopping day the app shows what's probably missing. Every suggestion gives its reason, for example “every 5 days, last bought 6 days ago”. If the data isn't there yet, the app would rather say nothing than guess.

For parties and trips you invite guests by link. They need neither app nor account, they open the link in the browser. Afterwards the settle-up collects all expenses and works out who still owes whom. Children can count as half a share, couples as two, and anyone on PayPal pays with a tap.

Homecart is free, shows no ads and tracks nobody. The data lives on a server in Germany. Anyone who wants more lists, more guest groups or all widgets buys Homecart Pro once for the whole household, at one of three prices of their choice.

Developer

Interviews and questions by email

Christian Köbke develops Homecart out of his own household. It started because no list knew what was running low, and after every party someone sat there with a calculator. The app was used among family and friends for over a year before reaching the App Store. There are no investors and no team behind it, just the developer and the people who use it every day.
